Can't get RAM to go faster than 1333Mhz using Gateway Bios

Originally, my PC started of as a Gateway FX6860 desktop but over the years has had just about everything upgraded but the CPU (i7-2600) and the Motherboard (labled as Acer inc. IPISB-VR Rev: 1.01). Seeing as this Mobo was most likely just created for Gateway products, I have never really been able to find out much about it.
By default, this setup sets the max RAM speed at 1333Mhz, and it originally came with 4 x 2Gb 1333Mhz sticks. A few months ago i upgraded to 2x4 GB 1600Mhz not having checked my bios for XMP (or whatever you call it) to have the RAM actually run at 1600Mhz. So now it's stuck at 1333MHz being no better than the original RAM.

Can anyone see what I would have to do to get the new RAM to run at the advertised 1600MHz?
If not, I've been contemplating keeping the 2x4GB and adding in 2 of the original 2GB cards. Even though they are different speeds, nothing currently runs over 1333Mhz anyways. Would this effectively give me 12GB of 1333MHz RAM (2x4GB 1600MHz + 2x2GB 1333MHZ)? Or would it just be best to keep the 2x4GB in there stuck at 1333MHz.

(This is my first post so please tell me if I'm not making sense or how i could clarify.)

Here is from gateway: Memory Up to 16 GB of dual-channel 1333 MHz DDR3 system memory, using four DIMM modules.

So nothing you can do, like dell, hp, gateway, all of them you can't OC CPU and the RAM. Sorry. And there is very small performances diffeerence between the 1333MHz and 1600MHz. Please read the review even though it is for PC.

Thanks for the reply, and i didn't know the performance increase was so small. Anyways, would it be worth putting in 2 of the original 2GB 1333MHz sticks in addition to the current 2x4GB 1600MHz ones to have 12 GB, or would that just slow the system down.

You can mix them together, if the PC will boot becasue the PC comes with the 64-bit OS. If the PC does not boot you can sale one of RAM kit and use other one.

Thanks for this, I was having problems after installing an additional 8gb of 1600 ram, even though the original 8gbs ram that came with the system would run at 1600, I guess adding in the 8gbs slowed it down to 1333.
