Hi. I have the Asus A8V Deluxe motherboard with onboard Promise 20378 Raid controller SATA X2. I have not installed this SATA drive on my machine but on another machine to transfer data over and had no problems. On my other system I had an additional PCI SATA controller which I installed a new driver on and which then recognized the additional slave drive.
When I bring the drive home with me (which still has data on it) I plug it into the SATA port. When I boot it shows that I have to go into CTRL+F to get into an array set up. Keep in mind I already have two IDE drives striped. One 250GB Master and one 250GB Slave. When I enter the Promise array screen it only shows the newly recognized 500GB SATA drive.
I click on Define Array. I then proceed to set it up as striped. There are four slots so I just put it int he first slot for the array. I then CREATE but I do NOT INITIALIZE. IF I initialize it says it will erase data off hard disks. I would rather not erase anything on this drive at all since it does contain valuable information. I proceed and boot up and it's nowhere to be found at all.
When I first installed the OS I cannot remember if I installed the driver for the Promise controller. I cannot find even on Asus' website the driver for that particular controller for 32-bit windows xp. Anysuggestions? Should I buy a seperate controller card?
I would like to have the SATA drive as a third drive set and a second slave in the system.
