Using Realtek HD audio.
I have sound only from headphones.
When I open the Realtek manager, I see monitor and headphones as things that can be fiddled with.
If I go to test sound on headphones (play sound in right ear, play sound in left, that sort of thing) it works.
If I go to do so with monitor it doesnt work.
However, there's this dropdown option on the side that says stereo.

When speakers are in stereo, I get no sound from testing sound, or from any thing I play that has sound like youtube video.
However when speakers are in Quadraphonic, I still get no sound from youtube and such, but the two new "locations" that appear do make the monitor produce sound (the two additional speakers in the picture)

I think the sound for your monitor is controlled by a different driver than the realtek. You will probably need to open the control panel and go into the Hardware/Sound section and click Sound. It should show the realtek listed along with your monitor. Then choose the monitor and click Set Default. That should turn on the sound from monitor. A quick way to get to that screen is to either make a shortcut or you can right click that volume icon in the bottom right of screen and there should be something that opens it from there. Hope this helps.

Here's what I get. No sound from speakers.

Try this: go into the options in top right corner of your audio manager and see if it has an option to change it to use AC97 or AC97 Front Panel. That way it shouldn't detect when something like your headphones gets plugged into the front so it will play sound from both front and back.
