Ive got a pretty good pc for free and i tried to install ubuntu 20.04 to it to make a server out of it
every time i try to boot it from the installer usb that i burned with rufus it just hangs at the purple screen with some logos on the bottom
ive seen on a reddit thread that i just need to switch boot mode to UEFI from legacy but i cant seem to find it in the bios setup/options ive checked all settings and its not anywhere

what should i do?

specs:
mobo: lenovo L-IG41M3 V1.1
processor: intel pentium duo E6700 at 3.20ghz
ram: 8gb ddr3
storage:
1tb hdd (full of data formatted on an ext4 partition),
230gb hdd that ill try to use as boot drive (empty)

edit: corrected specs

(i couldnt upload the vid here) [video link]

Can you take a picture of the screen it gets stuck on? Post to a site like imgur.com and then post link here.

Also, are you trying to install a 32-bit or 64-bit version of Ubuntu?
64bit i believe
the screen:

Also, what is the storage capacity of your USB drive? Old rigs like this one can have trouble reading some USB devices.

its a 64gig usb3 kingston datatraveler pendrive

I'm not so sure I'd call that a pretty good PC for use as a server. It's an old Core 2 Duo. You may want to start with an even older version of Ubuntu as newer kernels may not support that hardware without jumping through many hoops.
what do you reccomend?

it started the install i'll update if it goes well or not
i have another question:
i have an another disk in the system with a corrupted ubuntu 21.04 install on it(wont boot)(from a previous server that broke) is there a way to transfer all the apps and settings and everything from the broken install to the new one without formatting or losing any data on the old install

(my setup if i wasn't clear) :
-1tb hdd (corrupted ubuntu21.04 on one partition and ~1tb important data on another partition)
-230gb hdd (new, fresh install of ubuntu20.04)

If they were the very same version there would be a slim possibility. However here you're talking two completely different versions of the OS and applications. You can back up the data and configuration files (though you likely can't reuse the config files directly) but not the applications themselves. They will have to be reinstalled from the repository. You may still have issues if there were any changes made to such things as datafile formats and such.

and what if i update the clean install to 21.04?

Quick question - you say you have a hdd with a defect Ubuntu install on it - are you sure you're actually booting up from the usb pen drive and not from that corrupted os drive ?

Another question - Can you boot other Linux distros from that same computer? Have you performed a check with Memtest on it (it should be on the boot list when booting from Ubuntu iso file).

yes i booted from usb i see if i boot from the defect one it just shows errors in a black screen and i successfully installed the clean one but its about midnight for me so i'll come back tomorrow(my tomezone is UTC+1)

Ok, then let me suggest something else.

Try remove both internal storage devices, then boot up Ubuntu and see if that works. If not, try to boot up some other distro - I suggest trying MX Linux that is less heavy on resources and also not using Wayland as display server.

Just like Windows you can't simply move applications between installations (for the most part). Although it isn't quite as messy as with Windows. You should ALWAYS install from the depot as that way the system has visibility on what is where and libraries and such won't be stepping all over each other. It's not quite as bad as Window's DLL hell, but especially on a server you want everything as clean as possible.

and is there a way to get a list of apps installed on the old install and download them on the new one?
