Can't get VGA splitter to mirror PC display

Hi, I appear to be in a tough bind. It's about a PC that I set up which only has one VGA output slot which is located on the back of the motherboard.

I'm trying to connect it to a projector using a VGA splitter. The PC has no graphics card, and I'm trying to mirror the monitor's display to the projector, but no matter what I do I can't seem to get both displays to display at the same time.

Is there anyway to get this to work? I've read in a guide that you can get your projector to perfectly mirror your monitor's display even if you only have the motherboard's default VGA output slot.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I cannot afford a graphics card nor can I afford anything else to alleviate this problem.

Is the resolution of the screen set to the optimum resolution of the projector? It won't work if you have a screen set to 1280x1024 and a projector that is 1024x768 -- for example. Set the monitor resolution to the correct value for the projector before plugging the projector into the splitter.
