2 years ago, I had installed windows 7 on my PC with no trouble at all. But last month my slave drive went bad and when I was changing it, I accidentally tugged on the power cable for the boot drive and broke the SATA power connection on the drive. It was still usable so I was putting off putting in a new drive.

I just got an SSD to replace the old boot drive and am trying to install Windows 7 on it, but it isn't working.

When I go threw the install, it stops at asking me for a cd/dvd driver, so I downloaded up to date motherboard drivers (Asus P8P67) and put them on an SD card and connected it to the PC. Got an SATA controller driver off that but then Windows Install says 'no additional devices found'. wtf? And it wouldn't even detect the Chipset and USB drivers.

Figured that maybe it was due to the new SSD never being formatted yet so tossed in a different old sata drive to use but still had the same issue. Also tried setting the Bios to optimized defaults, and tried with just the SSD and DVD rewriter connected.

Now, what I don't get is that I've installed Win 7 on this PC from this disk 2 years ago with no issues at all. So why is it not working now? Windows install is SEEING the 2 old SATA hard drives, it is SEEING the new SATA SSD drive, it is SEEING the internal SATA DVD Rewriter, it is seeing the sd card. So, it obviously already had usable USB and SATA controller drivers, so why is it asking for a driver if it doesn't need one?

what mode are the drives operating in... typically you'll want them all to be in AHCI mode in the bios. and you'll need to download and install the AHCI drivers for your motherboard during your install of windows. (you know, at that step it asks you if you want to install any drivers?)

Turns out the disc was bad.
Had decided to re-burn a disc and it worked perfectly fine.
Although the old disc looked fine, maybe it had just gotten corrupted due to age.

Thanks anyway.
