I5 7640x 5.0ghz
Gtx 1060 6gb
24gb 2400mhz

I was playing GTA5 trying to see what the highest fps I could get was so I turning the settings down and no matter what I do it doesnt go above 100fps. On 1920x1080 and 800x600 it's the same. There is no setting for fps cap and I dont have v sync turned on. When I'm finding a new lobby it goes up to 260.

test without mixing ram?
I5 7640x should be using 2666 ram
I think it was just other players and modders messing it up. Staying at the airport in gta, I got 120fps in one lobby, then 83fps in another lobby, and in a solo session I get 143fps. It doesnt seem like theres a difference without the 2 4gb sticks.

My ram wont oc at all, maybe it will work without the mix.

I forgot to add that the fps still doesnt go up on a lower res.

GTA V Online is even more cpu bound than offline is.
You only have 4 threads with that cpu...
Right, but it should still go up on a lower res? I dont understand why a bottleneck would have the same fps on 1080 and 800x600. Maybe that's not the render resolution? It looks super pixelated on 800x600. I didnt think about this yesterday but I'm going to lower the res on nvidia control panel and try it.

And I cant remember what the guy I talked to said his cpu was, but it was an old 4c/4t at 4.0ghz amd cpu and he said he had it paired with a rx 560 I think and he said he got 150fps. I have my cpu on 5.1ghz so I dont get how hes getting higher fps than me with basically the same cpu.

If the cpu is already giving its all in this game at 1080p, how can it give more of what it doesn't have at the even more cpu heavy 600p?

I'm pretty sure GTA Online uses more than 4 threads... let's say, for example, that the game uses 8, and you average 100fps at 1080p.
Then you drop it to 600p, but it's still ~100fps... though you're still 4 cpu threads short. There's no way around a physical limit like that without having to replace the part.

I think I get it now. Resolution doesnt have anything to do with cpu only gpu because no matter the res the cpu still has to keep up with the same ai and all that. I dont know why this was so hard for me to get lol.

Do you know if theres a way that I could try it in 1440p without having a 1440 monitor? Other games let you manually set your render resolution but gta doesnt have that setting. The whole reason I'm doing this is because I'm trying to decide on what monitor to get.
