Just bought Logitech g51 speakers, plugged everything in and started up realtek sound test and i could only hear left and right speaker. So i unplugged everything, plugged it again and the same thing was happening. I dont have a sound card but i have maximus viii formula motherboard that supports up to 7.1 speakers. I made sure my windows sound setting were set to 5.1 and it's not woking.

Solution
have you got the Asus Realtek HD Audio manager? Is it set to 5.1? is it showing all the rear channels are correctly being used (If its like mine, it has icons representing the output channels at the bottom.

I had to spend 12 hours getting my Logitech 5.1 speakers to work. Shame speakers don't have digital input as I knew the rears worked in digital when i installed mine, just not analog.

Have you tried the Playing Audio and Hardware & devices troubleshooters?
search cortana for troubelshoot - choose the control panel choice
in next window, choose [i[view all[/i]
from list, choose either of the troubleshooters. run them multiple times, each time they want a reset, do it and re do the test.

it just takes some fiddling around.

Right click sound icon on taskbar. Click playback devices. Select playback device that are running speakers (probably called speakers with asus underneath it in light grey text). click configure. Can you hear all speakers there?
