Can't install any OS on Asus P8P67 Pro

I cannot install ANY version of Windows on ANY Sata drive I put in my system -- I've tried installing: Vista x86; x86 w/sp1, x86 w/sp2; x64; x64 w/sp1; x64 w/sp2; Win7 x86 and Win7 x64 -- nothing has even completed the extracting files phase.

I have gotten so many errors I don't know where to start. On some copies of Vista I can format the disks but then it tells me the reinitializer has failed and it stops. Other copies of Vista and Win 7 have both said they can't format the disks or can't create partitions; or, if I don't get one of those errors then it wants a dvd-driver that it doesn't need and doesn't exist. Granted, I normally don't get that far trying Win 7 as it reports an I/O error while loading the files to run the installer and quits. Oh, and to add insult to injury, 75% of the time the mouse goes dead.

This is the same no matter how many drives are attached, what port or controller they are connected to, and what mode I have the controllers in. All the hard drives work in other machines and show up, even in raid sets (tried that too) within the installers. I've formatted the drives on another machine to make sure they were formatted and initialized properly. I've tried three different brands of dvd drives, three brands of HDD's, and have also tried every bios update too.

I have no idea what the problem could be or what to do outside of returning he board and hoping it's just a bad one. I build systems all the time and have NEVER seen anything like this (thank you EVGA). If anyone has any clue what I could be doing wrong or something I have missed, please let me know.

And as an aside, hitting delete at 3400rpm as the board's constant cold rebooting, failed overclocks (when I never set any), and flashing osrom screens 47 times per boot are not helping things either....

Should also mention, that I don't think it's a PSU or RAM issue as both came off a system I've been running 24/7 for 3 years on a X-58 setup. I'm running 8gb (4x2) of 1600mhz Corsair, and I seem to be one of the lucky few whose board picked up and reported all four sticks and their xmp profiles from the start.

from what i have found do this

modify the BIOS to set the SATA DVD drive as IDE

or witch i dont think is the issue
make sure the hdd is master and cd/dvd is slave
let me know

force that ram to 1066 or 1333mhz 1.65v and run memtest

use only the sata2 INTEL ports on the motherboard using AHCI and try a different sata cable and dvd drive

on a side note ASUS and Corsair never usually get along - try one stick of ram at a time also

Check the current DRAM Voltage setting.

Go into the EFI BIOS Setup and set the AI Tweaker --> DRAM Voltage to the correct voltage, most likely 1.65V for the RAM that you reused from your X58.

Intel's memory voltage specification for second generation i5 and i7 (i.e. Sandy Bridge) processors is 1.5V. First generation i5 and i7 processors is 1.65V.

Well if you tried so many they are obviously pirated. Go out and buy a retail or oem and give it a try. Karma is a bitch.

Wow .... I never ran into a problem in 20 years of building ... only use Corsair or Mushkin lately.....and even mixing and matching those two hasn't hurt...... used OCZ and Crucial when the other two were pricey ... mainly last millenium on the Crucials

Returned my very first set of Mushkin's last week as wouldn't pass Memtest

GSkill OTOH has driven me nutz....and never can add x new Gskills to x of anything else.

Dumped AHCI and saw some improvement but still couldn't get Windoze installed....progressively got more of it in o each try, but couldn't to Windows update till I did it just a few updates at a time.....light bulb went off and I thot ..... something in 2nd RAM module must be bad as it's only tripping when it gets lotta stuff (read large files) in memory.

Sure enuff ran Memtest + and got 59 errors overnight.

Sorry, not as much karma working against me as you think, only the last couple where downloaded when I got desperate, and those were only the Win 7's; which I never wanted to try or use--don't like the GUI and my office's systems run Vista and that is where this system is destined for. All my Vista, Xp, ME, 98 and 95 disks always have been, and are legit (so blow your holier-than-thou allegations out your....), and have had no problems with them.

Memory: I tried using everything from one stick to four of the Corsair (and used 6 in total and in different concert), which the board always set to 1333 with correct 1.5v timings on resets and then set to1.65v at xmp profile timings upon entering the bios. Memtest wouldn't run on the Asus board but they passed on my 758-A1 EVGA with no problems before I installed them. I also tried 1.5v g-skill and Kingston--nothing. Doubtful it's ram. I've also had Corsair running in a A8N-SLI for eons without a problem, so they do get along from time to time.

I also tested the CPU and ram on a GB H57 UD3 board and had no problems installing several types of Vista.

Boot order, I have used the optical drives and Sata drives in every order and have switched cables. Nothing but the same errors with the same install disks. As for Master/Slave, never bothered as this is still SATA, just acting in a legacy mode. Also, the first thing I did was to set the SATA's up as IDE as I don't have a need for raid or achi for this system.

Also made a bootable usb flash drive and got the same errors.

It has to be the board. Nothing else would explain all of this, especially in light of getting i/o errors and bsod's from usb drivers--even with the usb controllers disabled. I'll be exchanging it tomorrow and will post the results. Should have just built the boss another X-58....

Jack, I'll swap out the ram once more, but I used the same CPU and memory sticks in a H57 build the night before for my neighbor. Vista installed in a heartbeat, installed Office, and then did the first 70 updates in one shot and the rest in another. Granted, these Asus boards seem to be finiky, but it has to be the board.....

It came from Micro Center and will exchange it there tomorrow. Hope it's just the board, but I can't see what else it could be.

Hate to rehash such an old thread but I'm having the exact same issue. I've done all the steps above as well.. I'm wondering if my board is messed up as well.

I'm also running Corsair memory that came from another Desktop that was running fine for years.

I've tried different sata drives, different sata ports, different sata cables, different install media, raid vs ahci, different cd/dvd drivers, etc..

Sometimes I get "could not find dvd/cd drivers" other times it see's all the drives (both if I have raid set or ahci) but says it cannot format the partitions.

Did RMA'ing your board resolve the issue?

Did you ever resolve this issue? I see so many threads where there are guesses and "sort of." But never any definitive resolution. I am having the exact same problem with a brand new P8P67 EVO board. I think it is a problem with DDR3 memory, but I really don't know. Windows 7 will not install after trying for .... 4 days. Suggest no one buy this board. And ... ASUS support is non-existent.

My dear friends , after days of trying i managed to make it work : I have a Asus P8P67 deluxe B3 (on it it says REv 1.03) so : Bios-advanced mode - and at HDD config i choose AHCI , (jmicron disabled , marvel enabled ) and very important use the 6g sata blue navy sockets . after that i managed to install windows 7 and very very fast 😀 Good luck and i hope it helps because all the looking around and reading killed me and didn't help me !
