Free old game pc with a asus mobi and intel dual core and 4gb ram, nothing special but it has an amd 6870 so i grabbed it. Corsair 750w psu.

Cleaned and repasted cpu and gpu and reseated all cables while removing 10yrs of dust.

had a running win7 on with crap so obvious reinstall.

cmos battery was dead so replaced it.
Bios defaults.

tried xp 32bit sp2 but freezes on 35%
tried win7 ultimate 64bit freezes on start logo.

tried with 1 or the other stick of ram
tried 3 different sata hdd and even one ide drive. They all ‘work’.

never had this problem, could this be something bios related ?

Perhaps see if it will even load from a newly prepared flash drive hosting an ISO of Memtest86... (you will need to boot from whichever media contains it)

What mainboard and CPU are there, so we do not waste time on 64 bit OS options that might not even be viable...
