Can't install any OS please help, tried everything

I recently built my first PC (about 3 weeks ago, actually) and every time I try to install an OS, whether it be Windows 7 or Ubuntu 14.04 LTS it hangs at screens if install and such. I actually did have it running Windows at one point, but then it crashed and deleted itself, same with Ubuntu. I don't know what to do because everything I have tried does not work. If it means anything here are my specs
AMD FX 83FX
ASUS M5A97 LE R2.0
Western Digital Blue Caviar 1TB 7200 rpm
8gb (2x4gb) G Skillz Rip Jaw 1600 mhz
AMD Radeon 6870
EVGA 600B 600 Watt PSU

I was actually playing games in this at one point, and then I had issues and windows deleted. Please help me, if I don't get this working I'm in deep doodoo.
Also, I have had windows "working" a few times, but everytime windows explorer would crash, and nothing would fix it. Thank you guys in advance.

My guess is either a RAM fail, or a hard drive fail.

I don't get any error messages, and just doesn't do anything. I apologize for the slow response had some family matter to deal with the last few days. My guess is the hard drive but I've tried even installing to an external but that hasn't worked last, what do you guys recommend I do?

Installing to an external will not work.
Just try another drive, internally.

I do not have another one to install it to, any other ideas?

Ubuntu give you an option to boot off the cd/dvd directly. Does that work?

If it is a bad drive, it is a bad drive. There is no 'fix', only replace.

I can provide an update. I tried again today to install, I took out one RAM stick and I got through the installation with no crashes or hangs, however, it told me it was unable to create a partition on my hard drive, which I used the clean all command on yesterday. I do have access to another computer now, so if I must do something to my hard drive, I can certainly do that.

So, are we 100% on the fact it is the hard drive?
