I just built a new pc. everything went smooth in the process (except for me not knowing how to install an am4 cpu cooler.) ive tried everything and i just cant install DXSETUP.exe (P.S im trying to install oculus)
orI had experienced the same problems with Oculus installation, also a similar problem with installation of Steam direct X files and I discovered that it was (for me anyhow) as there was a space in my username in Windows 10 (was Tim G, now TimG). Once I removed the space, everything installed correctly.
To do this:
Open start and in search box, type netplwiz, click OK.
Select the account you want to modify and click on the properties button.
Change the username to one you want to use (WITHOUT spaces) and click APPLY, OK.
Restart windows.
You should now be able to install Oculus software (and STEAM software too) successfully.
Try running it as Administrator. I don't mean as Windows Administrator but right click on it and choose "Run as admin".I just built a new pc. everything went smooth in the process (except for me not knowing how to install an am4 cpu cooler.) ive tried everything and i just cant install DXSETUP.exe (P.S im trying to install oculus)
it wont install at all. when i try to install oculus it says "cannot install dxsetup.exe/silent"Why would you need to install dxsetup?
Modern windows comes with Dx preinstalled.
The only thing Dx related to install would be the Dx9 runtimes but that would only be for older games.
I tried, but it still didnt work. ill try againTry running it as Administrator. I don't mean as Windows Administrator but right click on it and choose "Run as admin".
Try downloading and installing them separately.
that didnt work at all, it just said the same thing. i have a feeling it has something to do with the /silent thingTry downloading and installing them separately.

Update: I figured out that it should work if i use /q instead of /silent but it does that in the code and i cant figure out how to change itthat didnt work at all, it just said the same thing. i have a feeling it has something to do with the /silent thing
That would mean that you are not admin or that you are not running the setup as admin.Update: I figured out that it should work if i use /q instead of /silent but it does that in the code and i cant figure out how to change it

there was no log filesLook at the installer log file to see what’s wrong
i am running direct x 12, should i go back to 11?Try using the dx9sdk. That's complete. The regular runtimes are assuming there's required files already installed, but win 10+ uses a different DX, which doesn't include any legacy DX files from DX9c or prior.
Oculus stopped using/supporting DX9 (Win7/8 and prior) quite a while back in support of DX10/11 included and used by Windows10. So not sure why you'd be trying to install legacy DX. Oculus/Rift should work out of the box with Win10.
Yes there is under the temp directory. As mentioned before you shouldn’t even need this under windows 10 it’s completely unnecessarythere was no log files
Where are you getting the Occulus drivers from? Are they the newest?it wont install at all. when i try to install oculus it says "cannot install dxsetup.exe/silent"
