So I have an older laptop I use on the side and it was really great until the hard drive died. I was not able to backup any of my data but I would at least like to still use the laptop. Problem is, in Recovery Mode it'll ask you to install Mac OS X Lion and I've tried it through Ethernet and without but kept receiving the same error:
"An error occurred while preparing the installation. Try running this application again" multiple times with no luck. I've tried downloading the file from another laptop onto a new hard drive but the file/installer doesn't work on the actual Apple website (at least for me). Has anyone been able to fix this issue, if so please share how?
