cant install my samsung 850 EVO M. 2 ssd on my gigabyte aorus gaming k5 motherboard

hey guys so as in the title i cant install my ssd on my motherboard because there is a screw there which i have tried to undo multiple times but cant what should i do?

Hi there.

From what it seems according to your motherboard's technical specs, you should have 2xM.2 slots available. I'd recommend that you check your mobo's User Manual on how to install an M.2 drive, or get in touch with the manufacturer's customer support.
If you're having trouble with one of the screws, try the other slot.

So the screw is stripped out?

Is it that the screw wont turn, or that the peg it is attached to turns but the screw does not?

I'm not really sure what screw you're talking about, but I guess it's the one that's screwed in order to keep the M.2 card in place once you have it connected. Anyway, I can't be sure of what's the exact issue with it, so it would be better not to take any chances of damaging either the mobo or the M.2 drive and get in touch with the mobo customer support for more info.

usually the screw that holds the m2 in isnt already on there

usually the stand off is there and you put the m2 in then that tiny little screw goes on

are you sure its a screw and not the m2 stand off you are trying to remove?

might work if its stripped out though have you seen how tiny those screws are?

no real reason they had to be so small i have to pick them up by pressing my thumb on them as my fingers are too big to grab them

Try a magnet tip screwdriver or a bit of duct tape... 😉

no real reason they had to be so small i have to pick them up by pressing my thumb on them as my fingers are too big to grab them

yeah tried duct tape but once it was on there i had same problem couldnt get it off because my big fingers couldnt grab it lol

but once it stuck to my thumb by pressing down on it i managed to get it on the magnetic screw driver

i can honestly see a lot of people having problems with those tiny screws once m2 drives become more mainstream

even if they wanted to use a really small thread size no reason they couldnt have put a much wider head on it so you could pick it up easier

I usualy use a screwdriver with a magnetic telescopic tip to avoid all that...
