Hello lads.
I recently bought an nvidia card, the gtx 1060 and I can't install the newest drivers, I'm just stuck to the ones that windows update downloads automatically.
Whenever I try to install the new ones, it fails. The setup just says "Nvidia setup error" (I don't know if it's correct, I'm translating it from my installer). That procedure also makes the system go back to "microsoft display adapter" because the setup successfully removes the old drivers, it just can't put in the new ones.
My specs :
- M5A78L-M/USB3 (Asus) updated with latest bios
- FX 8350
- Windows 10 pro, build 1607 (I did the upgrade from Win7)
- HyperX Fury 1866 mhz
- Caviar Blue 1 TB+Toshiba DT01ACA100 1 TB (the OS is installed in the caviar blue)
- Nvidia GTX 1060
- G750M

Here's what I did:
- Ran DDU in safe mode
- Shut down the pc and removed the old card
- Put in the new one
- Turn on everything (the card is alright, the leds are illuminated and afterburner reads the card correctly)
- Windows update puts the driver
- Try to install newest drivers (after rebooting)
- I get the error

I did the exact same procedure for my sister (I gave her my old card) and all went smooth (she has Win7 though, and an old i7 920).

Even if I don't let windows put the drivers from windows update, the error still occurs. What am I missing here ? Do I need to reinstall W10 from scratch without updating from W7 ?

Solution
I solved it, in an unusual way!

So, W10 created a temp folder that couldn't be erased (says it needs authorization from system) with the nvidia driver installer downloaded by windows update.
This thing right here, creates issues, because nvidia's newer drivers try to get access to that folder even if they can't. So, this is how I did it :

- Ran DDU to delete leftovers and or possible corrupt installations
- Downloaded IoBit Unlocker and deleted the temp folder with it (it was the classic temp folder in C:/temp)
- Installed the newest drivers
- Rebooted

Now everything works like a charm. Thanks everyone for trying to help! :)
Yup I did, W10 has all the available current updates. And yes, I did update the bios to the W10 version. It's version 2101, I double checked from asus website.

EDIT : Winver says 1607 14393.693 and windows update says that I'm fine, there's nothing to download.

Where did you download/get the nvidia drivers?

Nvidia's official website http://www.nvidia.it/download/driverResults.aspx/115613/it
I also have geforce experience but I don't like it (I always keep it closed). I also tried downloading and installing them with it, same result.
