So I built a new system on a AsRock B250M Pro 4 Mobo and It's time to install the OS, I know for a fact that Win 7 installation doesn't come with the necessary USB 3.0 drivers so one has to include them yourself into the ISO and I did just that, but it still doesn't work. I tried using a PS/2 adapter with my mouse and keyboard, doesn't work. I messed around with the USB settings, Legacy and PS/2 simulation in the UEFI/BIOS, still nothing. I used both AsRocks own USB3.0 ISO patcher as well as the Intel one, neither worked. Everything I've tried, nothing has worked thus far, I skimmed through every forum post that dealt with the same issue and tried every solution, spent the whole night and absolutely nothing, not even a single step in the right direction. USB 2.0 Ports also don't work.

The various BIOS setting combinations I've tried

1.
Legacy USB Disabled
PS/2 Simulation enabled

Result: complete fuck up, had to pull out the CMOS battery to reset the BIOS because Keyboard and Mouse didn't work at all!

2.
Legacy USB enabled
PS/2 Simulation disabled

Result: It loads the windows files from the Flash Drive, but I cant get past the language select screen because the Keyboard and Mouse aren't working, even when I try using the PS/2 Adapter.

3.
Legacy USB Enabled
PS/2 Simulation enabled

Result: It loads the windows files, Keyboard and Mouse still work in the installation screen, but then I get "Device driver is missing" error message and no amount of switching the USB ports helps.

Does anyone have any idea what the hell is wrong here?

As I recall when recently installing Win 7 on my AS Rock Z270M-Pro4, the behaviour of my USB mouse with PS/2 Simulation enabled, the result was the same with your posted #3. The mouse and keyboard did not work at that point. Luckily for me, I still have a PS/2 mouse, and though sluggish, it continued to work, and I managed to navigate to my USB3.0 files found on the motherboard's install CD.

You therefore need -
1. a PS/2 mouse
2. a CD Reader - can be connected via USB which will work; not expensive.

So I need an actual PS/2 mouse/keyboard, an adapter isn't good enough? Where in the name of nine hells am I supposed to find a PS/2 peripheral in this day and age? I mean, I don't exactly wan't to buy one for no reason if it turns out to be a pointless endeavor. Can more people confirm what ThomasLeong said? The fact that a real PS/2 peripheral and not an adapter is needed.

FYI, I was using a USB-PS/2 Adapter for the keyboard, and that stopped functioning at #3. The USB mouse stopped at that point too. Only the PS/2 mouse continued to function, albeit sluggishly.

Hey, I'll take sluggish over nothing. I guess I can try ordering a mouse online, I'd rather wait a few days for it to arrive then spend another sleepless night trying to fix this effing mess.

Ah, I managed to solve it. What I did was use 7Zip to open the install flash drives boot.wim file in archive, then I added the 3.0 USB Driver to the boot-wim's partitions, then when the installation booted, I could install the driver from browsing for available drives, the boot drive immediately had the drivers folder, so instead of using the 3.0 USB patcher to alter the install.wim, instead you should alter the boot.wim. Installation for my Win 7 started....*sigh* sleep deprivation...worth it.

edit: also, USB legacy settings were both set to enabled so I could move my mouse and keyboard.

Well, win7 Installed, but now I have a new issue, the bloody thing doesn't recognize any USB flash drives anymore. Like I installed the drivers and in windows install setup it recognizes the flash drive no prob, but when I move onto desktop, nothing works again.

Mmm...did you use the usb3.0 file from the motherboard CD?
Additionally, did you reverse the 'usb legacy' setting?

In my case, there were two files - iusb3xhc.inf and iusb3hub.inf - and the second one worked for me.
Found in motherboard CD's "Drivers" folder > USB3.0 > Intel > (v5.0.0.32) > Drivers > Win7 > x64

After install of Windows I also installed all the required motherboard drivers from the CD. But usb was already working, so I had no problem negotiating around for this.

I set the USB legacy to "UEFI only" incase the same shit as my first attempt happened again where no USB devices worked. None of the settings worked, couldn't get the PC to read my USB flash drive so I could copy the Driver installations from it. It doesn't matter now, I used the old HDD switcharoo trick to get Drivers from a working computer onto the new one, installed all the drivers and I am currently writing here from the new PC.

All this crap is the price one must pay for the comfort of using Win 7 these days 😀

Can you explain for non-tech dummy what & how you did? I am happy to find this thread as recent & I am one of victims cannot get through W7 install on Ryzen board (Biostar). usb 3.0 problem. In my case ps/2 keyboard works (adapter) but mouse port not. Wired mouse (adapter) lights but no input. I have actual MS disc. No success w attempted usb OS installation from iso clones or whatever call them. Always errors copying files, even NET Framework error blocks dl. :pfff:

My next try: Use another pc (older mobo) to put W7 on new (intended) hdd, then put that hdd in Ryzen sys. Being 7 I would still have no usb 3 so no input. (Even to get drivers off mobo cd, or install pci usb 2 card). UNLESS, ps/2 both work as they should. OR, there is a way to get usb 3 driver into windows files while it is on that older sys. Is this what you did? Web search for "usb 3 W7" gets 100% how to install OS clone from usb. Exactly what I don't want.
_____________
PS 1: No conceivable why adapter should matter. It's wire to wire. Maybe other monkey biz going on w mobo changes:
PS 2: I'm not tech but cause here no mystery to me. MS finds another way to force use of 10. Induce chipset makers to remove usb 2 support at handoff, so OS disc w usb 2 cannot be loaded. No valid reason for this change or why 7 cannot run on board as well or better than 10. Squirt out lots of fog & ink to cover your crime. Industry shills do it for you. :fou:
