Hi everyone, I recently wiped my hard drive to reinstall windows 7. Whenever I boot from the 64 bit windows 7 cd I either get stuck at the starting windows screen or I get BSOD. I tried to install windows xp and it installed without an issue. I've been searching and I feel like I've tried everything. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Most windows 7 install problems are due to problem memory, a computer that can run Windows XP without any problem can fail when installing Windows 7 due to memory problems. Windows 7 is much more critical of the memory then either Windows XP or even Vista. Download and run for at least three passes and preferably overnight memtest86 to test the memory.

Yep, it had 64bit widows 7 before I wiped it. I just found out from my brother (was his computer) that it was overheated many times while playing starcraft 3. So mayne a hardware problem?

I did a memtest and it found 0 errors. Any other ideas?

I'll run memtest again with different ram. As for the media I tried my disk and a friend's disk and it did the same thing.

Sounds silly but have you reset your BIOS to factory defaults and then make the necessary corrections i.e. enable AHCI etc?

EDIT: Is there a possibility of obtaining the stop error message i.e.

MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION
***STOP: 0x0000009C (0x0000000000000004, 0xFFFFF8000C35DBA0, 0x00000000B2000000, 0x0000000000070F0F)

Yep, tried that. Next time I get BSOD I'll write it down.

Sorry guys, I know it's been a while but I ran diagnostics on the HDD and it found 5 bad sectors and it had 147 warnings. After that I popped the Windows 7 cd back in and it made it all the way to the installation before I got BSOD. Anyway, this is what it read. "STOP: 0x00000124 (0x000000000, 0x81802024, 0xB6000000, 0x00000181)" Anyone know what this means?

I removed my hdd and put it in a friend's computer to install Windows 7. The install went fine and it worked great in his computer. I put it back in my computer and it boots up to the windows starting screen, then BSOD flashes for a split second and it restarts. Is it a possibility part of the issue is that it wasn't installed in my computer?
