I just picked up a SAS Cheetah 15k.7 and a rocketraid (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148617 and http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816115100)

I would like to set the drive up as my boot drive, is it possible to do so without making it a raid array and reading it as a stand alone drive? I don't have much experience with arrays.

Motherboard: Gigabyte Guerrilla G1 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128481)

If it's a single drive your only option is using it as a stand alone drive. You may have the ports on that card set to Raid, but he drive itself will just be acting as a single drive. The link to the card is bad so I wasn't able to look at that part.

What problems are you having trying to install Win?

Assuming you can use teh drive on it's own connected to the raid card you will most likely need to supply windows install with the raid drivers for the card.
Have seen many issues with rocket raid cards over the years, nearly all soved with drivers.

Thanks for the replies everyone, here's more clarification

You might need to go into the advanced drive options and install your RAID driver during the OS install.

I've tried this before but the drive will show up only if I put it in an array, which the only one that the card bios accepts is JBOD. Windows can't partition or format this it just spins in a circle indefinitely.

What problems are you having trying to install Win?

I want to use this drive for my windows and cannot get windows to recognize it during install as a stand alone drive, only shows up in an array which it being the only drive in the card doesn't work out for whatever reason lol

Hopefully this link works.

Yup, no luck so far.

Edit: Actually, I set this option when it was in the JBOD array, I went back to check and if I choose this when it is stand alone it tells me no suitable arrays available error.
