Can't Interact with Desktop

For a while I have been unable to interact with my desktop on my GL551JW asus laptop. When I first received the laptop it wasn't like this. Any advice?

We need significantly more information here.

How long is "a while"?

Explain specifically what it is that you can/can not do, "intereact" can mean very different things to different people (even "desktop" can mean something completely different to non-techie people).
To me interact means that you cant move the mouse pointer, cant click on any icons, cant use alt-tab or anything (so PC is completely frozen)

What troubleshooting steps have you taken?

I really can't put a finger on when it first started happening, and as far as "interacting" with my desktop I mean I can't drag (blue box thingy) or place files or shortcuts on it, but when I navigate to the desktop folder on my hard drive, there is all my previous shortcuts. Other than that my pc functions perfectly normal.

I haven't really taken any troubleshooting steps, I didnt really know where to start, so I came here.

Is there any icons on your desktop? There is a setting to hide them, possibly you just have that selected.
