Hi there,

i'd really like to limit my fps, on certain games.
I'm runnning two 290x vaporx's - they get very noisy when working hard.

I've so far tried
*AMD Catylst Control Center - Frame Rate
*Msi afterburner / Rivatuner
*Radeon Pro: - Dynamic frame rate control

But none of them have had any effect on my FPS..

i'm not sure what i'm doing wrong exactly...
With CCC . . . . i went onto the profile for the game, navigated to 'performance' tab - then 'framerate' and then ticked maximum framerate and set it to 55fps as a test..
No change on my fps.

Msi afterburner - i downloaded the 4.1.1 (final) version yesterday.
I set up a profile for a game in RivaTuner and set the cap to ~30fps...
I didn't see a way to 'accept changes' e.t.c. - but i quit it and reloaded it and my fps cap of 30fps remained..
However it again didn't effect my fps,, in game..

RadeonPro - Setup a profile,, enabled dynamic frame rate control - set a value
Once again it didn't have any effect on my fps.

-----------------
I feel like i'm going slightly crazy :) i'm really not great with computers,, but surely not this bad!!?
PCWorlds review of AMDs new FRTC: said that it didn't work on some games and AMD hadn't responded to their email yet...
MSIafterburner/Rivatuner - seems to work for everyone.
RadeonPro's Fps limiter (dynamic frame rate control) appears to work for some, not for others...

So my guess is i'm doing something, or several things wrong...

>

I'm measuring my fps with either one of the three apps above,,,, or fraps {as a control measure}
all return the same information.

Solution

Computer Specs? maybe you are missing drivers or certain programs. try downloading driver booster 2, it fixed a lot of problems for me after updating the drivers.

Hi, thanks for the replies.

* I'll download those drivers
* In addition to heat,,, there are also some games where i'm getting too many fps,,, even disabling crossfire... (500+ on older titles)....
So this can cause problems on some games in addition to the rig running noisily when it could be nice and quiet if it was only producing 60fps e.t.c.

I've followed a few step by steps for MSI Afterburner and RadeonPro fps caps, so i find it strange that nothing has worked so far.
To me it points to a problem,,, i'll start with the drivers.

My rig:
CPU - Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0 GHz
Motherboard - ASUS Sabertooth Mark 1 Z97
CPU Fan - Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO
Video Card - Sapphire AMD R9 290X VAPOR-X OC Graphics Card (3Gb DDR5, 384-bit, PCI-E)
Video Card - Sapphire AMD R9 290X VAPOR-X OC Graphics Card (3Gb DDR5, 384-bit, PCI-E)
RAM - Crucial Ballistix Sport 16GB
SSD - Crucial M550 240GB
HDD - Western Digital Black 1TB
Case - CM Storm Stryker – Full Tower
Power Supply - EVGA 1000watt gold cert
Optical Drive - Samsung 24x SATA DVD RW

Right so i Installed Driver Booster 2.
updated quite a few drivers - several to do with the processor...

And this time round: Rivatuner (msi afterburner) - worked straight away :)

ahhh, good times.

thanks alot for all the suggestions, and cheers PhoenixWright - that's one cool bit of software.

Defragged my hardrive with the complimentary software e.t.c... optimized a load of stuff - and all for free!
might upgrade to the Driver Booster 3 when it's released.

thanks,
Regards
