Hello,
I setup a password procted administrator user account for Windows 7 on my laptop. It was working fine but the past two days when I try to login it is telling me the password is invalid. I already made sure caps locks was not on, and it is the correct password so I am not sure what the issue is. How can I reset the password without being able to login into Windows?

You can use this program to remove the password from the account it might look confusing though for novices.

http://pogostick.net/~pnh/ntpasswd/

Download and burn the ISO to a disk.

Change your boot sequence within the BIOS to boot from CD\DVD.

Press return when you're faced with boot.

Select 1 from the next menu.

When asked about the registry directory, press return, it should be what it says default.

Now you should be faced with 3 options, press 1 for password reset.

Then 1 again to do edit user data and passwords.

Now you will be asked for the account you wish to change/edit or remove a password from.

Type the account name, for example Mr J Doe.

You will then be asked a series of options, number 1 should be clear (blank user password) *choose this one*

Once it says password cleared, please don't reset, or anything as it is not saved yet.

Put ! and press return in order to go back.

Now press q and return to quit and to save the changes.

Follow the onscreen instructions.

Once done you should be able to get into Windows without being asked for a password of any kind.
