Can't make my SLI with 970's work

Even though the cards show up in Nvidia Control Panel/Device Manager and Geforce experience, when i am getting into games only 1 card is running.
Also the SLI option won't show up in Nvidia control Panel

Is the required SLI bridge installed on top of the cards/ connecting the two cards?

Are you sure your motherboard supports SLI?

Ye just checked that, my mobo doesn't support SLI, oops

I had an issue getting mu 970's to SLI. I tried the first time with 2 different 970s and eventually got it to work when I returned one and got 2 identical ones from the same manufacturer. I'm not sure if that is required but that is one of the troubleshooting steps I took before I got it to work.
