New WD 4TB Black. Came with two partitions 1. 2048 unallocated but I can right click and do simple volume. 2. 1678 unallocated but cant right click to do simple volume. Showing up in disk manager but does not show up in list volume. ran WD quick diag and its ok. running extended now. Tried deleting the #1 and got it all to one volume but couldnt do anything with that either.

Hi there slatchley,

What happens when you deleted the partition? If you managed to delete it, try to convert the HDD to GPT. Also, you will need to check how is the drive recognized by BIOS(whether it shows full capacity).
If the drive fails the extended DLG test, it may be a good idea to contact WD's Support either by e-mail or phone and eventually RMA the drive.

Hope this will help,

Just so others know what I did. I formatted the one partition so that it would show up in diskpart/list volume. Then I did a diskpart/clean which wiped out the two partitions. Back in disk manager still no simple volume option but when I restarted the computer it immediately told me I had to format that disk and voila it worked. Maybe I never restarted before.
