Can't open geforce control panel

I just bought my first gaming computer in Friday from best buy. It's an ibuypower with a geforce gtx 1060. I can't get the control panel to open up. NVIDIA Display settings are not available. "You are not currently using a display attached to an NVIDIA GPU." I opened the experience app and updated it. I brought it into best buy for something I was being a dummy about and tried showing it to them and it opened up for them on a monitor using dvi. I'm using a tv with hdmi and it won't open

Ok, I know it's silly to ask, but do you have your tv connected to the motherboard HDMI port or to the GPU's HDMI port?

I was being a noob. I had it connected to the motherboard lol. As I said first gaming computer.
