Well if the data on it is not important go right ahead.
I have worked in a clean room, But be aware if the dust does not spin off the platter it will damage the read write heads of the drive.
That`s why a HD is sent to a clean room service.
When you open the drive you should see a small filter in one corner.
That catches the dust and keeps it off the platter. Traps it.
Because the drive spinning at 5400 rpm or 7200 rpm creates a vortex.
Any dust is flicked off the platter and keeps it on the outer most edge where the filter catches it when the platter is spun up.
FYI.
The older the age of the drive the less likely this will fix it.
This is because the oxide of the platter wears off over time, and the filter also catches that after it is hermetically sealed. Once the filter is full. then the oxide buildup.
can also be the cause of a stuck head ect. The oxide is more heavy and after a time just builds on a platter if the filter is full.
As well as the mechanics, the life of a drive is based on the filter.
