I can't enter the task bar settings on windows 10 no matter what I do, I can right click on it and open the task bar settings but it gives me an error which is linked below. I also tried to open my settings but when I tried to go the task bar section it just closes.

right click start button

choose powershell (admin)

copy/paste this command into window:

Repair-WindowsImage -Online -RestoreHealth

and press enter

Then type SFC /scannow

and press enter

Restart PC if SFC fixes any files as some fixes require a restart to be implemented

First command repairs the files SFC uses to clean files, and SFC fixes system files

SFC = System File Checker. First command runs DISM - https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/manufacture/desktop/what-is-dism?view=windows-11

see if that helps

I tried both of the things but neither found anything. Any other ideas? I also used ccleaner to repair anything wrong with my registry.

What are your full system specs? Are all drivers updated to the latest version? Another scan you can run in Powershell (admin) is chkdsk /f /r. This scan requires a reboot and can take around an hour if it repairs issues.

Edited the main post with my full system specs, also my drivers except a realtek bluetooth driver is up to date. I'll run chkdsk in the meantime

Have you done any upgrades recently? It’s probably unrelated, but it looks like you have two different sets of RAM. Could you try removing on of the sets of RAM and try again? I’m thinking task manager might not like the two sets and is having problems with it.

I wonder what the error you got a week ago is. Could be related.

  1. Open Windows File Explore
  2. Navigate to C:\Windows\LiveKernelReport
  3. Copy the dump files out onto your Desktop
  4. Do not use Winzip, use the built in facility in Windows
  5. Select those files on your Desktop, right click them and choose 'Send to' - Compressed (zipped) folder
  6. Upload the zip file to the Cloud (OneDrive, DropBox . . . etc.)
  7. Then post a link here to the zip file, so we can take a look for you . . .
