Can't open Windows update

I am part of an IT company that has monitoring software on our clients so we can push updates, catch bugs, scan for hardware changes, detect multiple kinds of issues, etc. Specifically, we use MAXFocus/LogicNow's Advanced Monitoring Agent.

About a month ago, a PC started throwing out an error from a daily check:

Vulnerability Check
:: OLE error C80003F3

Now, that probably means nothing to anyone who doesn't use this specific program, but the issue seems to lie in the PC itself: I can't perform Windows updates. I can open the control panel and click and open anything I want...except that. If I do, the whole thing just freezes and I have to use task manager to close the window.
Very occasionally, the Windows Update box will open, but I can't have it check for updates or even show me a list of available ones. It has the red shield with an X and prompts me to check for updates, but clicking the button brings up a box that says "Windows Update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer."

I've rebooted multiple times, ran every Microsoft Fixit I can find, and stopped/started/restarted the update service. Nothing helps.

One time (and only one time), I received the following error box:
"::{26EE0668-A00A-44D7-9371-BEB064C98683}\0

The remote procedure call failed and did not execute."

This was after clicking Windows Update from the start menu and no box popped up. I googled the latter part of the error and have already made sure the Remote Procedure Call service is Started and the RPC locator set to manual.

Sorry for the long post. If anyone has any ideas, I would greatly appreciate it.

My first thought is that windows update might be broken on the client machine. I have certainly seen that on systems from time to time. However, I have no experience with your remote monitoring/control software. So I can't rule that out as a possible cause.

Right, I know something's wrong on the client, because I can't even open the Windows Update explorer box, and that's completely separate from our software.

I'm thinking something went wrong on the PC which screwed up Windows Update, and our software now can't perform a certain operation because of it. I'm hoping someone has some experience with a broken Update...

Sorry for the long delay. I'm only very rarely able to work on the PC; the client is closed Wednesday afternoons at 1, and I just have to hope that I'm free at that point. So updates will be few and far between.

Not sure if I should update this when I can, or just close it...
