Can't Overclock my Ram

I successfully overclocked my AMD FX 6300 to 4.2MHz and overclocked my AMD HD 7850 a little (increased the GPU clock up 100 to 960 and increased the GPU Memory up 100 to 1300, I also allowed the voltage to go up 10% on the GPU). I think these are both moderate Overclocks and right now everything runs nice and stable and cool. CPU has only gotten to 53C after 2 hours of P95 and gaming and the GPU got up to 65C.

I'm now wondering if my Ram could be causing an bottleneck? I'm using a single stick of 8GB DDR3 1600 Crucial Ballistix Sport: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148540

I tried to O.C. the ram to 1866 and the computer wouldn't boot.....OC failed message.

Can this ram be OCed? Do I need 2 sticks to OC? Do I even need to OC the ram? If you guys think I should invest in new ram I could do that as well I guess.

Thanks,

-Mark

Raising the RAM clock really won't net you any significant gains. I don't think you should even worry about it.

And when you raised it to 1866 MHz, did you raise the RAM voltage? Because if not, then that's your problem.

Well since someone on these forums told me I could OC that specific Ram I assumed I could.

Next question then, do you think the Ram is causing a bottleneck?

Thanks for your time.

I've been thinking about your snarky response. Overclocking is pushing the computers components beyond the default/advertised settings. So yes I did think it was capable of going beyond 1600. My CPU is currently going beyond the specs printed on the box as is my GPU.

Hey thanks. I did not raise the voltage. I did some more research after posting this and found that ram speed won't really make a big difference like you said. So I'm just going to leave it as is. Everything is running great.

Interesting. AMD FX6300 + AMD HD 7850 is the same as my setup!
Built it back in April, and so far it's been pretty reliable.

Now to help with your problem. What do you mean by "bottleneck" are you having issues with a certain game/program? Or are you just looking for more performance?
