[SOLVED] Can't overclock new 2080 super?

I just picked up a 2080 super (MSI Gaming X Trio) yesterday and it runs great at stock settings, but I can't get ANY overclock using afterburner. If I run the OC scanner it just crashes to a black screen at stage 3. If I apply any manual overclock to the core or memory clock it crashes to a black screen as soon as I boot up a game. What gives? This card should overclock comfortably...even if it's just a little bit.

For reference my system is as follows:

Aorus x370 gaming K7 board
Ryzen 3700x cpu
Corsair RM650X PSU
GSkill 32gb ram
Latest drivers and newest stable version of afterburner. Case runs very cool. I've used DDU and tried uninstalling/reinstalling drivers and afterburner.

Ya after a couple days of gaming the memory has stayed stable at 1400 overclock, which is pretty good. Core clock is another bag...it's down to 70 now and I'm doubting it will even hold there. This card just doesn't seem to like much of an overclock on the core which is pretty disappointing.

FWIW the OC scanner put my overclock at 14. When I test at 70 it's only at like 50% confidence.

Might be bringing this one back.
It's like that with all Pascal and Turing models. None of them care much for core clock OC - you may as well let the gpu handle it.
The sky's the limit with the memory OCs though.
Found the problem. It was the power setting in the Nvidia control panel. It was throttling my card down and messing with the overclocking. Switched it to max performance and afterburner is working.

Right now seems stable with a manual 100mhz core and 1450mhz memory overclock. Subject to further testing of course. I'm going to try the OC scanner and see what it comes up with now as well. I knew there had to be an issue.

Just sharing my experience with the OC Scanner. I think it needs some fine tuning.
I found that it was too aggressive with the core clocks - it doesn't mess with the memory. You have to apply that one yourself before starting OC Scanner.

Regardless of your results, it always tells you "90% confidence"...
All Pascal and Turing gpus should be easily capable of +100 core clock. After that... it's all on silicon quality. But core clock isn't the thing to push on these cards, it's the memory.

I was getting '90% confidence' on core clock boosts of 130, 140, and a whopping 164! I'd later find these adjustments failing after a day or two of testing.
