Question Can't Overclock RAM

Hello , i have these corsair RAM sticks 32gb 3466mhz (2x16gb) , motherboard (asus z370e gaming) . the 3466mhz is the safe overall stable clock speed im guessing i watched some youtube videos . Currently im on 2133mhz and want to go up a bit and want to use my ram to its potential . Whenever i turn XMP on my PC boots into safe mode with an american megatrends screen . I heard people talking about dim slots . I went through my motherbaord's manual and found this 'recommended memory slots configusration' . I'm new to this stuff so wasn't able to understand it . My cpu temps are all normal 35-65degrees

What EXACT model number ram kit do you have ?
The Model Number is on the sticker on the RAM sticks and also should be on the package they came in.
Was the RAM bought as a kit or a separate sticks ?

Also what CPU do you have ?

If it is a two stick kit the RAM should be in the slots I highlighted in Green here:

Idk I don't think I have the box anymore . I have the i7 8700k and the Corsair dominator platinum 3466mhz ram the one that comes with the ram cooler thing

make sure the voltage gets set to 1.35v for the ram when you enable XMP.

Is it this kit:

If it is then that kit is on the QVL for your MB, so it should have no problem running at 3466 with XMP enabled.

If that is the kit you have I suggest you install 1 stick in SLOT A@ (farthest slot from the CPU) and running Memtest86:

If the first stick passes the tests without any errors then do the test with the other stick in slot A2 and see if it gives any errors.
If either stick reports errors then you need to RMA the kit.

Your motherboard has 4 slots. Most consumer boards will color code them alternating.
Starting from the cpu socket is DIMM3-DIMM1-DIMM4-DIMM2. This is just as often called slot1-slot4 or A1/A2-B1/B2 or with some motherboards it's B1/B2-A1/A2.

But for the simplest explanation, from the cpu for dual channel ram, use the 2nd and 4th slot.

Starting from the cpu socket is DIMM3-DIMM1-DIMM4-DIMM2. This is just as often called slot1-slot4 or A1/A2-B1/B2 or with some motherboards it's B1/B2-A1/A2.

I was already using the 2nd and 4th slot starting from the CPU . I'll run some ram tests brb

Lol, a thorough mem86 ram test runs about 8 hrs-overnight, kinda leaves ya wondering what BRB really means.

Try setting xmp. Then look up and see what the voltage setting for VCCSA and VCCIO is. They should be up around 1.2v ish. You may need to bump those up a little to like 1.22v and/or the ram voltage from 1.35v to 1.355v etc.

Some motherboards have issues with certain speeds, they don't have the right multipliers, for example there's talk of some Gigabyte boards do not accept 3000MHz, but are happy as clams at 2933MHz or 3200MHz.

So it's possible you can set the xmp, copy all the figures manually into the bios and then physically set the ram for 3200MHz or 3600MHz as both of those are standard speeds.

That is a common error when the RAM settings are not compatible with your PC.
I had that same error multiple times when I was testing various RAM timing settings on my 2600/B450 rig and on my 3700x/X470 rig.

Have you tested each ram stick (individually) with Memtest86 ?
If not do that just to be 100% sure that you don't have a bad RAM stick.
