I recently received an old dell computer which had its hard drive wiped. I assumed it would be working so I tried to install windows 8 but when I got to the bit where you choose a partition to install windows on no drives appeared. I took the hard drive out and attached it to my computer and used easus partition manager. I found that it had about 250Gb unallocated space and no other things on that drive but in my computer it shows up as Local disk: E which only has 101Mg space. I tried to create a drive from the unallocated space but whatever software I used the options when I selected the space where either greyed out not there.

When I right click on another drive proper options show up.
If I try to use Partition Magic, It says "the selected disk contains one or more partitions which cannot be moved. To complete this task use the Operations Menu rather than a wizard."
The operations menu however is greyed out
And it doesn't even show up in windows disk manager.
