Okay guys so I got my brand new GTX 970 today and I can't play simple games in ultra or even high settings. I my CPU is an Intel Core i7-4790, I put it in my PC myself I'm fairly sure I set it up right and I installed the driver with it as well. This happened with my other graphics card I should've been able to playe in higher settings with that but I got a new card and it says the highest I can play is on low and it's getting 25 fps. What's going on? Thanks guys.

Solution
Installing a GPU is easy, so you are unlikely to have done it wrong.

however:
With the PC off and unplugged, make sure it is fully seated home, there may be a click from the retaining mechanism, or you should be able to use the retaining mechanism.
What PSU do you have?
As above what are the CPU temps (unlikely but possible).
download GPU-z and tell us how many PCI-E lanes it claims to be using.
using GPU-Z sensors tab tell us what the GPU clock speed is when gaming, should be around 1000, suspecting it is much much lower than this.
My full specs are these:
CPU: Intel Haswell i7 4790 4-Core 3.5GHz
Motherboard: Gigabyte Intel 1150 GA-H97M-D3H
RAM: Avexir 8GB 1600MHz LED Core Blue LED
Primary Storage Device: Western Digital 1TB Blue
Graphics Card: MSI GTX 970 Gaming 4G

I got my whole PC Custom made someone professional did it, but today I installed the GPU myself. I watched tons of videos on it, it should be all good, as I said it recognizes that it's in my PC but just playing in shit graphics.

As others have asked: Did you uninstall the old video drivers before installing the new card and then install the new drivers? If you didn't and are relying on windows to manage the driver that is why things are running poorly. Also you still have to do this even if you had an Nvidia card in your system before this one.

1920x1080. I'm doing everything normal it's got to be something wrong with the actual PC and no it's not the CPU temps. Am I best just to call a professional up to come around and have a look?

Sorry I just didn't have the software at the time.
My GPU & CPU temps are here: http://prntscr.com/9sq23k
And no there is nothing wrong with the card it happened to my other graphics card a GTX 760, I should've been able to play most games in medium and high settings but could only play in low setting and get 15fps. There is something else not right.

What monitor do you have and how is it connected to your graphics card? i.e is it HDMI to HDMI, or DVI to DVI... etc.

What game/s have you tried? There are some games I play that struggle with ultra setting on my 980Ti (on 1440p). There are games like ARMA 3 where I can have the setting on low, medium, high or ultra but still only get about 30-45fps on 70+ player servers, yet when I play single player on maxed out settings I can get about 90+fps.
