Hello,

i'm having a really annoying issue and i'd like to find an answer here, because i couldn't find it in the google. I have recently bought a really great PC, i've built it with the pieces and parts selected by me (i'm not a newbie in constructing computers). My specs would be :

Motherboard - Asus Z97M-PLUS
Intel core i5-4690K (+ overclocked to 4.57GHz from 3.50GHz, it's i5 quad cpu)
Custom cooler on a processor (i don't know exact name or number but the temps are around 50-60 of Celsius when gaming hardly, never going up & ~40 of Celsius when doing nothing)
Nvidia GeForce GTX 760 (Asus DirectCU II version --> i'm able to overclock it)
8.00 GB RAM (Dual channel, 1600)
1TB HDD + 240GB SSD
24" Full HD 60Hz Philips monitor
Mircrosoft Windows 8.1 Pro

GPU drivers are up to date and i've tried editing some options in Nvidia control panel, but nothing helped. I'm not a gamer right now, i'm a person who likes from time to time to turn on one or two games to spend some free time (usually online) and only now 1 question came to my mind --> i love seeing youtube videos marked with 60fps, i also have a beast pc, but why i can't run my games on 60fps? During all this time i tried playing Skyrim 5, Battlefield 4, Resident evil 6, The Evil Within, The Witcher 3, Far Cry 4, Dying Light and many more. I was able to run all these games at 30 fps (for sure) with high/ultra graphics --> when the screen is steady, its amazing, but when it comes to moving around and having to perform quick actions and swiping camera all around, i see little lags i would say, even fps drops, the animations aren't so smooth. Even when playing simple games that do not require huge amounts of PC resources, like 7 Days to die, Contagion or even Minecraft, the graphics are great but in every 2 or 3 seconds (sometimes every 5s or 10s) i have small ~0.2 second screen freezes. Although it's very small but having it constantly really takes the joy away no matter how extolled the game is.

I've been looking for guides for unlocking fps, tried disabling VSync and other options, but nothing helped. The refresh rate of my monitor is 60Hz. I also have a blue screen error sometimes, once in 2-4 weeks, during that the PC says its collecting information about crash and tells me to google more about this error, code : WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR. I dont know if this has to do anything with my gaming experience, but i can't know everything, so i've posting all issues i have right now. I hope someone is able to share a solution with me. Thanks in advance.

Did you do a new installation of Windows when you put this together or just swap in a hard drive with Windows already on it? If not, I would start with a clean install. Next, make sure all your motherboard drivers are up to date. Download the latest ones from Asus' website. With some games, especially Witcher 3, you're not going to get 60 FPS with a GTX 760, except maybe on the lowest settings.

BadActor, yes, of course, i always make clean installations of windows & format my discs when i do that. Motherboard drivers seem to be up to date. About games, i know witcher requires a lot of resources, i should'nt have posted that, but what about technically weaker games? for example, when i was playing league of legends, i had about 300-400 fps shown on the screen (~200 when recording), the view was beautiful, but the worst part was made by these little screen freezes always happening in crucial moments and ruining my games --> and i still got them on, i'd say, on every game. (even when i install them to the SSD disc, didn't find a solution for it either :|) Of course, my GPU isnt epic, but it's much much better than integrated or middle-level cards, it won't reach 60fps in the latest gen games, but i still expect it to be able to climb to that number on some games, like when i see a youtube video game played on 60fps with kinda the same or lower specs, i just feel disappointed when i stay with "laggy" ~30..

Have you checked to see if your GPU is free from dust? Sometimes, older GPU's thermal paste gets cracked causing additional heat and less performance. Also, my friend with a 760 4GB edition is experiencing the same issues you have been having recently.

Well, yeah, i'm starting to understand that, when i bought it there were no 970 or 980 cards in the shop (as i remember), i guess it just got old :/ It's embarrassing to admit that gaming experience evolves so fast and my card looked like one of the best back then that i thought it was good all the time until now. Well, its a decent card, but it is too far from newest gen games. I guess this is the solution.

But i still can't understand the reason of small screen freezes and unability to play technically weaker games that do not require that much of resources (usually tests say my rig is ~2x times more powerful than recommended settings (i prefer gamedebate)), but i still can't reach the wanted fps number.

Even if i have a window on the side of my PC, i will have to try that. I'll perform a few more tests with lower qualities, maybe little screen freezes appear for the same reason? (i don't think it is, because, for example, when my sister plays minecraft on this PC, it shows 450-500 FPS, never going lower than 400, but screen freezing isnt gone :|)

Screen freezes is most likely due to the GPU overheating, so it throttles the performance to stay at cooler temps. Run Heaven benchmark with this program running (http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html) and post your max CPU and GPU temps.

Did it.

I waited for a while, when i saw the same images for the 3rd time (10-15mins of watching) i thought it is repeating the movie, so i manually press'ed quit. I used "extreme" setting on a maximum allowed resolution of 1600x900 (my is 1080p), i saw "custom" option but it was too late, should i re-do it until the end or..?

I'm not sure why but prime95 didnt launch, but i've made a heaven benchmark test as another member of this forum advised, here's the photo, my cpu goes fully to 4.5ghz (3.5ghz out of the box with a letter k - its overclockable easily, thats why my numbers are so high) + the temps won't reach over 60 degrees of celsius.

Weird, how long has this issue been happening now? Your GPU temps stay a tad bit lower than my GPU temps (GTX 970) so I don't think it is temperature related. What graphics driver are you using and did it happen before or after any program updates?

For online games, i can tell your pc is not everything. You also have to consider the ping, jitter, packet loss of your internet connection and server load. So, online games will have some kind of freezes time to time.

Also the 760 can not handle newer AAA titles at 1920x1080 at ultra. If you want 60 fps at ultra in every game, you have to update your gpu.

Also, can we know what is your power supply?

Well, a year, maybe more, i've been a bit lazy, i didn't want to dig deeper, so i was ok with 30 fps, + all the latest games become boring to me after first 15 mins of playing and i never play them again, they just lay on my disk using space, lowering settings by a bit sometimes helped, but now it really gets on my nerves. Enough, i wanna get what i paid for 😀 (it wasn't a cheap rig tho). No, temperatures of my PC are very good, because of a custom "Be quiet!" CPU cooler & my case has 7 fans inside the box so all the dust doesn't stay inside. Im using Nvidia GeForce experience game ready drivers version 364.72, it says it's "up to date", realeased at 03/28/2016, can't see anything new after clicking "check for updates" button.

Yes, of course, here is my power supply. 620W.

And directly from speedtest.net --> ping 3ms | download speed ~25Mbps | Upload speed 19.8Mbps. The only problem i can have with internet is when the router is disabled. We have a FTTH internet connection at our home (as translator says) and connected directly to the router i can achieve up to 300mbps internet speed (also speedtest.net results). My internet is much slower because i'm getting it via electric cable.

Test your ping to the game serve directly. I never said internet speed in my post, i talked about ping, jitter. packet loss and server condition.
I play dota 2. I get 6ms ping from speedtest. But in dota 2 server ping is around 70-80. Because speedtest uses the closest server to you to test speed, it is indicative of your internet speed only. Use Pingtest and select server manually in the area your game server resides. You will see proper indication of how is your connection to the game server. Some googling will be needed. Like i know the SE Asia server of dota 2 resides in singapur. You can also check the ping directly if you can know the address/IP of the game server.

By the way, that power supply is a low quality one and the manufacturer is not trustable. In 620W psu the 12v should have much higher wattage. I recommend you pick up a quality power supply.

I can play all the games i want at ~30 fps, but , as i remember, i've never had the smoothness, never had 60fps, only now i decided that i want that.
I've made some more testing on a game called "7 days to die" because it was the nearest option. But first, lets check my rig and specs for the game --> Here.

As we can see, is it shown that my rig is able to play the game at 1920x1080 at ultra at 30 fps without any problems. The bar in the chart is about ~2.5 times higher than the line of ultra game settings at 1080p. It also says i could play ultra on 2560x1440 at 30fps, sadly.. i didn't expect such terrible results.

I"ve been using nvidia geforce experience to see in-game fps. Well, in game:

Low graphics --> 60fps never going down --> everything is perfect.
Medium graphics --> 60 fps, sometimes 59 --> still perfect.
High settings --> 45-47 fps --> this is the line when i start getting small screen freezes --> playable, but not enjoyable
Ultra settings --> 25-27 fps --> terrible gameplay experience --> it is playable, but when it comes to aiming, using guns and running in a bright environment with lightning effects.. it's so unpleasant.

Otherwise, i don't see many improvements in quality of textures from medium to high/ultra, only the distance of the map is shorter that is loaded for me to look at.

What about overclocking my gpu, would it help me to achieve some more fps, i mean, would overclocking enhance my experience by a visible amount or would it only be a slight improvement causing more problems than giving benefits? (like heating)

Pingtest.net --> ping 23ms, jitter 1ms, packet loss: unable to test (says something about java, but i do have it.. 😵) --> Grade : B* (says very good)
I understand what you mean, playing online is ok (BF4 64 players on biggest map - no problems, no crashes or being unable to move because of lags, 30-50fps i had there, small inside spaces are great, but wide open fields are too bad to play because of fps), i'm more focused on LAN type of multiplayer.

I found out that people play this game maxed out at 1080p at 60 fps with this combination of PC --> GTX 660 on an AMD Phenom X4 CPU and 8GB of ram. I'm inclined to believe that 760 is a bit better than 660, isnt it?

GameDebate is not indicative of real world performance. It is an estimate.
Overclocking will help to add some fps.
The main improvement in FPS you will see is lowering AntiAliasing and lowering shadow details. I don't think here maxed out means everything at the highest settings possible.
Read some review of your card 760. Then you will get a good indication of what to expect.

Well, i've made some more testing

Average fps with gtx 760 on The Evil Within is 43.6, i had about 45-47
I also tried to play "Thief", the internet says average fps would be 39 at ultra and 1920x1080 --> well, i had 120-150 at the highest available option of graphics quality chosen, but i haven't been outside in bigger spaces (i would have to get past a few levels but i totally forgot how to play that game.. 😀)
Battlefield 4 avg at ultra would be 49.3, i had it from 35 to 55, mostly 40-42, depends on the side of the map and activity of environment. Big fights when skyscrapers are destroyed and falling down leaves me under 30 sometimes.

I think it's quite normal, but i can't understand 1 thing. Why these little games require so much gpu power? That must be a very bad optimisation. Seriously, i have 150 fps in "Thief" (very high settings --> highest available option, word ultra not detected) being in a normal-sized hall with many details and paintings, fighting vs guards without any problems. Meanwhile in "7 days to die", barricaded in a small house at night at ultra wont get over 35fps + freezing screen things added making me useless in situations where reaction time is important. Thief - 24GB, 7 days - 3GB of data.

I've also found out that overclocking my type of GPU would add ~7-10+ fps to the games, i think i will go for it if i find a game that is worth trying.

There is polygon count and texture resolution that eats up the graphics horse power. Also light scattering.
And yes, we programmers are lazy these days. Because we need to figuratively fill up an ocean in 1 month before deadline. So lower optimization for end user, more memory wastage, irrelevant thousand of for loops eating up cpu cycle.
