I just got a new computer. I took my old hard drive and installed it in the
computer as secondary hard drive. New OS (WinXP) installed on the new
computer's main hard drive.

When I try to install BF1942 Anthology, I get to 24% of the installation and
I get the following error while trying to install c:\program
files\battlefield 1942\mods\bf1942\archives\sound_001.rfa:

"Specified component cannot be found in the media. An attempt was made to
access a component that does not exist in the named media."

Any ideas? I just reinstalled BF:V on the same computer and it worked fine.

I had similar problems with my current machine, back in the days when it
was brandie-new (ages ago). A quirk in the value of one motherboard
voltage sensing resistor and a CPU that pushed the mobo to its limits
meant that the memory bus occasionally had a pattern sensitive read
error. More or less the same as if the RAM sticks were too slow for the
memory bus.

What first brought the problem to my attention, though, was that
installing something-or-other from CD would always fail on one
particular large cab file.

Pick up a copy of Memtest86 or Memtest86+ and run it overnight. If it
runs clean then at least you've elimimated one possible cause.

Try a different CD-ROM drive. I have had CD drives starting to wear out
that have done that. A new 52X CD ROM is dirt cheap (like $20).

I posted this message before having a chance to try cleaning the CD's and
even though that was the most obvious first step, I thought I'd post here in
case someone had seen this error before and it was an easy fix. As it turns
out, the CD was dirty.

So, Memtest isn't needed (is it ever?) nor is a new CD ROM drive. Thanks for
the replies, though. :)

I had the same problem a couple of weeks ago with BF Deluxe. I had to
disconnect the second drive as I was installing it on c: and it has
worked fine.

Since then I have bought Anthology and I did a complete remove of the
Deluxe and installed Anthology on the g: drive. Works fine.

Hope this helps you.
