Can't reistall Windows 10 Please help

So I've been having a lot of issues with my Windows 10 upgrade for a few months and recently installed some new hardware into my computer. As windows didn't recognize my new motherboard it asked for a new product key and I figured now was as good a time as any to buy a new disk and start from scratch. Horrible mistake.

I moved all my files to an external drive and booted from the disk. I went to set up installation on my main disk but get the message "windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk is of the gpt partition style." Unfortunately at this point I have already formatted the drive and can't go back. Have I screwed myself?

Might download linux, like linux mint for example, and put it on a usb drive or a cd, boot from that, and see if you can blow away the partition or reformat the drive.
