A little while ago my laptop its HDD crashed, so I had it replaced. My SSD, containing Windows 10, was just fine however. I noticed after a while that I've been getting search results, in my start menu, from the files originally located on my old HDD. I'm not certain where my SSD is getting these search results from. When I try out these broken shortcuts, they all open to 'This PC', with all of the options for 'This PC' rather than a working shortcut has. Even containing the icon of 'This PC'.

When I click on Properties or Explore, I just interact with 'This PC', so that wouldn't work. Perhaps my SSD needs to be freshed up somehow, at the very least clearing up these old search results from my start menu.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what I could try and where these search results stem from?

I rebuild the search index based on Step 2 and it worked!
I made ran the batch file containing the following lines:
  • @Echo off
  • net stop wsearch
  • del "%ProgramData%\Microsoft\Search\Data\Applications\Windows\Windows.edb"
  • :wsearch
  • pause
It was a bit slow with the first few searches, but it's getting a lot better over time. At least the broken shortcuts are gone now.
Thanks a lot!
