I built a system for a friend. It's an A7V, 1.2Ghz Tbird, 256Mb PC133 (Micron), 40Gb IBM, SB Live! value,10/100 LinkSys Ethernet, Creative Blaster modem PCI, 16/10/40A Plextor CD/RW, and WIN98 SE.

The only problem I have so far with her new system is that after playing R6 Urban Operations game, if I put the system into STANBY, the system will hang. Sometimes it will hang when I try to wake up from standby. Other times it will hang going into standby (there's usually a blinking cursor on the screen).

Any ideas? Oh, and BTW DX8.0a is installed.

I doubt disabling Pow Management will help because it happens when I TELL it to shut down, not when it does it automatically due to time (though it may still do it..haven't tried).

I'm starting to *REALLY* hate WIN98...but gotta have it for games.

Catheter and Caffeine IV are in place. Let's PLAY.

I never use standby options. You can disable it by selecting 'always on' under control panel/power options. You can set the monitor to power down after say 30 minutes or so to save power without Windows going into standby. Works for me.

This is probably obvious, but when you shut down make sure you are not selecting the standby option in the dropdown box.

Standby is evil... Has never worked right for me.

Win 98se is the best operating system at present, least amount of problems compared to the others unless ya want to use Linux or something. Dont really see why you would want to use power management anyway? Save power, turn it off!
