I just got this new Omen 144hz monitor for my birthday. I bought a separate Mini DP to DP cable, and that is what I am using. The problem here is that the monitor won't actually run 144 hz, but does support it. I go into the control panel to display adapters, and when I try to change the hz from 59 to 144, it gives this error message: https://gyazo.com/912f7e4471679aa192c7cbe149e694a4 Then when I click OK this error message comes up: https://gyazo.com/9790b2a1dcdb2f9eedc2bbf544c2cc2a I have an ASUS ROG Gaming laptop w/ GTX 960m (and intel graphics 530, but the GTX 960m is for gaming) and is able to run up to 144 fps in most games. Do I need a new cable or what is the problem here?

Thanks for the reply. I was actually able to do this through the intel control panel. Now it is supposedly 144 hz, but still doesn't feel like it. When I go to UFOTest website, it doesn't detect 144 hz. If I use V-Sync on fortnite it goes to 60 hz instead of 144hz. The monitor definitely is set to 144hz now, I just don't know why it is not displaying it.

Update: I was able to change the setting to 144 hz through the Intel graphics control panel. Now though, it still doesn't feel like 144 hz when gaming. When I go to UFOTest, it doesn't say it has 144 hz. If I use Vsync on fortnite, it still goes down to 60 fps and not 144.

Thanks for your reply. It turns out that I just needed to display only on the monitor and not the laptop screen, as somehow it was interfering in mirror mode. Now, the ufo test (and fortnite v-sync) detects the 144 hz, and does feel much smoother. Your reply did help me however, as it did tell me I needed to make my monitor my main screen which is kinda what I did. Thank you anyways.
