Can't run Windows Update

Hi. Yesterday, I factory reset my dad's computer and now I can't run Windows Update. When I attempt to, I get the message, "Windows Update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer." I've restarted it THREE TIMES!!!! Can anyone help? Thanks! Computer is a Gateway FX6831.

Go to ControlPanel/Administrative Tools/Services
and check if Windows Update service is started and it has startup mode Automatic or Automatic(delayed start).

If Windows update service is not running, try starting it and check for any errors in Event Viewer.

Already tried that, STILL NOT WORKING! Error code 0xc8000247.

Try this:
Stop Windows update service and change it's startup mode to disabled.
Go to c:\windows and rename folder SoftwareDistribution to SoftwareDistribution.old
Change Windows update service startup mode back to Automatic and try starting the service.

Looks like an install of the Intel Rapid Storage Tech drivers MAY fix this

Will it work on the Gateway FX6381?

Download the chipset and Others drivers from here

See if that fixes it. Select desktops / fx series / fx6831 for the drivers

KB3112343
(windows update service must be stopped before doing that)

This fixes windows update problem with freshly installed windows 7.
