Can't save bookmarks in Internet Explorer

I get an "Access Denied" dialog every time I try to save a bookmark. Says I don't have permissions. I'm running Win 7 with SP1 and IE 11 on a machine that was upgraded from Vista.

This appears to be a fairly common problem, if you Google it. You likely have to take ownership of certain folders, or just remove the "read only" status that's been stuck on them. Here are a few answers that may help:
