Can't see hard drive in Windows Explorer

I recently upgraded a desktop system by replacing the existing HDD with an SSD. Switched BIOS to RAID/AHCI as recommended and installed Windows on SSD. System and upgrade works but now I can't see the old/second hard drive in Windows Explorer even though the BIOS sees all three I/O devices (CD/DVD, SSD, Samsung IDE drive). The hard drive is connected by SATA. Could this be because the old drive used IDE and not RAID/AHCI? Is there any way to fix this so Windows Explorer see it? I searched most if not all the forums I could find but they only seem to deal with questions concerning the SSD. Thanks.

Hey troche

First try this

Start -> Right Click Computer -> Manage -> click on Storage -> Disk Management.

Can you see your drive here? Check if it has a partition. If you can't see it here, there could be an issue with your raid.

Otherwise, the reason you can't see the extra drive is because it has been raided with another one, and that's why you only see one?

How would it be raided with the other one? You'd have to specifically set up the raid.

The drive probably just needs to be initialized in disk management. If you open up disk management, it will probably pop up a window telling you that a drive needs to be initialized.

The drive already has data on it as it formerly was the boot drive. System was upgraded to include an SSD as the boot drive and the former drive (the one I can't see in Windows Explorer) will now become a data disk. The disk has been attached to another system to verify that the data is still there and it is. As I mentioned, I can see the drive in the BIOS but upon booting, it DOES NOT show up in Windows Explorer (or Disk Management). It is visible under IDE but not RAID, which is/was necessary for the SSD. Any other suggestions as to how to see it?
