"Can't set up Direct X" error - TR 2, 3 & 4 - help please.

Hi

I've run TR 2, 3 and 4 successfully on my PC under Win 98. Now I've
upgraded to Win 2K I get this error "Can't set up Direct x' when I try
to load any of the games.

I've installed the latest version of direct x (v.9) but still get the
same error.

Any suggestions?

I've downloaded the patch for TR3.

It didn't work first time so I uninstalled TR3, reinstalled it and
applied the patch again.

When I try to open the file either by inserting the CD or by double
clicking the .exe file I get a dialogue box saying "Tomb Raider 3 CD?"
as if it can't find the CD drive. Which it should be able to as I've
just reinstalled the program from it! Argh!

Any suggestions anyone - before I tear the rest of my hair out?
