Cant start programs. disk cleanup

after running the program disk cleanup i was surprised when i couldn't access my programs (except those on my ssd which is a separate drive). for example i tired starting ccleaner and i got the message "windows cannot find 'C:\Program Files\CCleaner\CCleaner64.exe' make sure you typed in the name correctly, and then try again."
but i looked at the folders, and the program is still there. can you please help?

The SSD is most likely your C: drive.

Also, the folder may remain even though the program is uninstalled.

Also, in the future, I'd reccomed you do not used crap like CCleaner and whatnot. Best case scenario it makes no difference or the difference it makes you could have take care of yourself without installing crapware, worst case it's malware.

Nothing wrong with ccleaner, it's one of the best programs around to remove temp files etc.

Just dont use its reg cleaner too much

thats not what happened. my C: drive is on a hard drive. and CCleaner was just an example with a program i cant open. the program i used was the windows program called Disk Cleanup. i never installed anything, it comes with windows.
I also doubt it could be malware being that ive only been on youtube today, and i run kaspersky all the time, and i just ran a full scan and nothing came up. i assume that i deleted a file that is necessary to open other programs

also when i say folder, i meant to say the entire program. like the exe and everything

I disagree, considering that you can do the exact same things using powershell without installing crap.

Remove-Item -force

springs to mind, shit, I'll make a thrad with nifty powershell scripts that'll get people away from CCleaner, regcleaner and driversweeper and crap people can't stop using.

no i ran Disk Cleanup (windows program) and ran it. and this was the result. nothing will open. no pictures, no word documents, no programs. the only things that open are the programs that are on my Gaming SSD

I would avoid any reg cleaners. They'll screw windows up.

Ccleaner isnt just a reg cleaner. If you dont use it, then no point complaining about something that you've never used

That sounds extraordinarily weird and like something that shouldn't and cannot happen :S . And you say all the files remain intact on the drive except that you can't open them? Is it an old drive? I gather mechanical.

Can you paste the path to a program (all the way from root) that won't open but still exists? Maybe something got screwde up in the registry, though I doubt it, but hey, it's worth a shot. Also, what are the sizes of the pics/programs that won't open?

I've never lit a barbecue inside because of bad weather but I still think people should avoid it and would tell them so.

im not sure what you mean by paste path to a program, so if you can walk me through that would be nice. and the size of the pics are about 73KB, and the CCleaner was 6473KB. which seems normal

I'm thinking regedit might have put some weird extensions on some of it values.
But honestly, I'd just reinstall it :S

yea. couldn't fix it. just backing up my important stuff, and im going to reinstall. thanks anyway. this is indeed a weird issue

IV done something similar to this, simple fix is to just go back to a older system restore point if there is a more current one
