Can't tell if I have a problem Overclocking Gigabyte GTX 650 Ti OC 2gb

This might be weird, but I overclocked my GPU using both Gigabytes OC Guru II and ntune, both display the core overclock speed and GPUZ displays it in the main menu as well but if I switch to the sensors screen where it shows the current realtime clocks its always at the factory clock of 1032mhz instead of 1175mhz? Furmark is running and its not reading the overclock as well. Same seems to be the case with the memory clock as well. Whats the deal here?

1. Do not use two utilities to overclock. Pick one, stay with it. Using two utilities will cause problems all on its own.
2. New cards will all throttle with Furmark. Use Unigine's Heaven to test.

I didn't use both programs at the same time, if I used one the other was just to help verify. I don't understand why it would throttle like that, It does the same for unigine too. The memory clock seems to take and display in the benchmark correctly but the core clock is still factory.

Whats really throwing me is that OC Guru still shows the overclock. So wich one do I belive? OC guru and ntune or GPUZ and any benchmark??

It's because AMD and nVidia don't want you to fry your card, and they made it so the cards automatically throttle when using Furmark.

That leaves me with two questions. I was under the impression that increasing clock can't harm you hardware, only cause instability. Increasing voltage is what causes damage.

And two, then what do you use to effectively test a GPU overclock?

I meant fry as in temperatures, sorry. The throttling happens even at stock clocks.

Heaven should do you good to start, but the best way to test a GPU overclock is to play some graphically intense games for extended periods of time.

Ok cool, yea my Gigabyte GTX 650 TI OC has an oversized cooler on it, I haven't seen it break 50c yet. Plus I have the fan settings set pretty high, will fiddle with lowering them after I stabalize a better overclock.

While monitoring specific scenes I have noticed a 2FPS increase in the Heaven benchmark after overclocking despite the fact that it doesn't seem to take. So at least I can see the benefit.
