Hello everyone! I believe I put this in the correct place ( either this or RAM ).

Im going to be upgrading my ram soon and need help with something.

My Mobo says it supports, and i quote,

" Memory: 4*240pin DDR2 DIMM Slots, Supports Dual Channel DDR2 800/667Mhz

667Mhz ECC, non-Ecc, 800Mhz ECC DDR2 SDRAM

Ensure you dont mix ecc with non etc etc..."

Is it saying it only supports 800Mhz if its ECC?

If its non-supported, itll do 667Mhz max?

I am going to go with 2x4gb DDR2 800Mhz sticks, just need to know if i need to get ecc or non to achieve this. The wording and punctuation they have listed is confusing.

Mobo: Dell OTP412 X38 chipset

Cpu: Intel Core 2 Duo E8500
Thanks!

That's the way I read it as you posted. Just look for 800MHz non-ecc to be safe.
But any ecc RAM should be OK no matter the speed rating. It just may run at 800MHz.

Look for William P here on the forum. He's a vault of knowledge on older Dells.
