Hi all,

just wondering if anyone can help me track down this issue. I cant turn my pc on. I have power because the motherboard shows a yellow light and the clr cms light shows green. However I cant actually turn on the swith on the case.

I had this issue a few weeks ago and my local pc repair shop said that when I took it down to them it turned on straight away and they couldnt replicate the problem.

I was surprised but took it home and sure enough it has run OK until now and the same problem has occured.

Could it be the power supply if there is power to the motherboard?

Would it be the silverstone case switch.

are there any basic checks I cn do before i take it back to the repir shop?

The specs are

intel 3930k 2011 pin
asus rampge IV extreme
intel 520 240 ssd
wd black 1Tb hrd drive
GPU gtx 690 4gb
corsair AX 1000w power supply
Noctua nh 14 cooler
32g ddr 1600 ram

Cheers

Tim

firstly, it can be the power supply if there is power to the motherboard, we would call it in this case as a "faulty power supply". This does not mean the power supply is faulty, it means it's working but not working properly.

It can be many things, we'll have to try lots of different things to try and pinpoint the issue, which does take time.

Try;

-Different power point

-taking a brief look at the power switch, there may be some noticeable issue to do with wiring ect..

-Booting everything outside the case with only primary components, no need for SSD/HDD.

If this doesn't work, we'll take it from there.

Thanks for the dive. Ill give those a shot and let you know how I go. I dont think its the switch. I hve already pulled that part and checked it out and Ive already tried a different power point and that didnt make difference wither but Ill check out hose other items in isolation and see what happens. Does this simply mean disconnecting the power to these items?

wow this has been a major pain in the harse

I took it back to the repair guys and it started up straight away for them?????

They ran tests all the usual and all fine.

I took it home and it started that afternoon fine, although with a small pause where it stopped, but then started again.

But then the next morning....wouldnt start?????

I have pulled it all apart and still cant get it to start.

I was wondering if it could have something to do with the fact that it doesnt start in the morning when it has been cold but it seemed silly However, i pulled out the hairdryer and gave it a bit of a going over but it didnt work.

I have been getting fairly frustrated I can tell you. ....but then I found this thread

http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2085336.

So i got out the hairdryer again and spent a bit longer going over the motherboard specifically rather than the case switch and power supply and YEEEHAAAAAA

it actually powered up after about 3 minutes with the hairdryer.

SO the answer would seem to be that the this particular motherboard doesnt like cooler temperature.

What to do about this in the long term is another matter.

Thanks for your help.

Cheers
