So today i decided that i needed to update my BIOS because it has been a while. My Motherboard is a Sabertooth 990 FX R2.0 running on Win 8.1. I went to the ASUS support website and downloaded the BIOS version 2104 the most recent one.

When i open it its a .CAP file and i cant run it on my Win 8.1 am i missing a program that it uses .CAP files or am i downloading the wrong file?

That's not the way to update the bios. If you don't know how to do it, might as well not do it. If you make a wrong move, you will brick your mobo and it will not boot. And they won't give your warranty for that.

But if you really want to take a risk on ruining your rig then go ahead and read this: http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/how-to/pc-upgrades/3428662/how-update-your-bios-in-ten-steps/

Basic rule for bios update: If it ain't broken/having bugs, just leave it as is.

No, not at all. I've seen so many complains of updating bios thru windows, then it got bricked. The safest way is to flash it via flashdrive. But I'll say it once more, if you're not encountering any problems, then don't touch it.
