So I recently upgraded to a Ryzen 1600, and surprise to me AMD no longer supports windows 8.1. Okay I'll just upgrade no problem. Well, because of the issue my pc crashing consistently, meaning I can't upgrade.
I've tried doing it via boot drive but it says I'm incompatible for an upgrade (I have unregistered windows, idk if that's the issue)
I also cannot upgrade in safe mode. Is there a workaround for this? I have too much important stuff on my desktop to lose and I'd really not want to do a clean install.

Specs if needed:
Cpu: Ryzen 1600
Gpu: zotac gtx 970
Psu: 750w 80+gold
Mobo: Asus prime a320m-c r2.0
Ram: 2x8gb 3200mhz ram
Cooler: corsair h100 liquid cooler
SSD(boot drive) Kingston 120gb
HDD: 2tb WD Black 7200rpm

Side note; I have stuff on my ssd I need to keep, that's why I don't want to fresh install on it.

Solution
If youre still using the same hdd that was in the 6300 then yup, you should do a clean install / delete the partitions then reinstall windows

Different hardware, drivers and chipset

Windows will know the difference (whats on the hdd from the 6300) and what the hdd is connected to now

It'll know it's not the same system. Result: It'll freeze and probably crash on you
