I have a HP EliteBook 8470p. A LOT of my windows upgrades fail. I've downloaded the microsoft helper software and still nothing. The current fall update, I've tried three times. Each taking aroun 16 hours and freezing on a blue screen that tells me I am 52% complete.

I'm wondering if previous failed updates led to others and the cycle is continuing...anything I can do to remedy this?? here are my stats:

If you wipe PC you will need a new installer anyway, that is what the media creation tool does. It has 3 functions, Update current PC, or Create a Win 10 Installer on USB, or it creates an ISO and then burns the installer onto DVD.

I stated in last paragraph that copying everything onto another drive and reinstalling win 10 is likely your best choice.

At least you on a reasonably new version of win 10, its only 8 months old.

Have you tried the Windows 10 media creation tool and use it to make a win 10 installer on USB - it saves downloading the updates multiple times

Once USB made, put it in PC and find it in file explorer, and run setup as it should offer to update current PC

If it still falls over, knowing what BSOD you are getting might help us

You might need to do a clean install to get past the problem. So backup everything on PC you cannot afford to lose, Boot from the USB installer and follow this guide: http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/1950-windows-10-clean-install.html

sorry for the late reply. I was having problems with receiving notifications through email and didn't realize that somebody responded.

I have not tried the USB creation tool, but after going to the link, it looks awfully complicated and involved for a clean wipe. Is there some reason that is better than just saving the files I need on a separate drive and wiping everything clean?

even though I didn't do this, I was about to. I got another notification that I should update and it might be critical if I didn't to the security of my computer. I figured it wouldn't go through, but it actually did and updated successfully. I wonder if others were having the same problem and they changed something in the update? anyway thanks for all of the suggestions. hopefully it will help someone else out there.
