Can't upgrade RAM

So I got my computer about 6 months ago and I recently wanted to upgrade to 16gb of RAM from 8gb. I ordered an 8gb stick of HyperX ddr4 2133mhz (same as my other stick) yesterday and it arrived today. I put the ram into my computer and started it up, but when I did, the monitor didn't detect a signal and my mouse wasn't turning on. Am I not putting them in the correct slots?

My specs are:
i7 5820k cpu @3.3ghz
MSi x99 SLI plus mobo
Corsair RM1000w PSU
Windows 10 64bit
And I use HyperX ddr4 2133mhz ram (both sticks are the same)

Any help is greatly appreciated. :)

If resetting the CMOS memory does not help, you may want to try booting with only the new memory installed and check if that works correctly on its own with memtest86.

If the DIMM appears to be working fine but no slot combination works, put only one DIMM in, set memory settings to manual, lower the frequency to whatever the lowest is and if that still does not work, then you have some sort of compatibility issue going on.

Single/dual channel memory configuration is not something you see often associated with LGA2011 CPUs where quad channel is one of the main attractions.
unplug your computer for the power, then remove the cmos battery for 30 seconds, while the battery is removed, press and hold the power switch on the computer, (' its just to drain the capacitors")

then place back the battery, then replace with your new ram.

plug it back in and turn it on.
